We now have a European release window for Killer is Dead, and describing Suda51‘s latest game as “controversial” somehow doesn’t feel like it’s going far enough. This new trailer – subtitled “Mondo Girls” – looks at the ladies you’ll encounter in Killer is Dead… and, thanks to the game’s Gigolo Mode, we do mean look.
If you’re familiar with Detective Mode in recent Batman releases, then Killer is Dead‘s Gigolo Mode is a sort of extension of that. Instead of letting you see through walls, it lets you see through clothes.
This is, of course, coming from the studio that created Lollipop Chainsaw, so it’s no real surprise. Suda explains to Eurogamer that “sexuality is a good way to express a certain element” in his games:
Maybe sexuality in games shouldn’t be as big a taboo, but at the same time I live in a country where sexuality is pretty crazy.
That said, Suda himself recently commented that his games are the victim of a sort of cultural miscommunication, referencing a number of Western games that explore similar themes. Whether or not they’d pull it off with the same level of hyper-contrast, colour, flair and creativity.
Killer is Dead arrives in Europe in August 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360 – the rest of the world is yet to be confirmed.
