Sega prepares to revisit Castle of Illusion

In a pairing sure to cause smiles across the globe, Sega has teamed up with Disney Interactive to create a complete re-imagining of the classic side-scrolling adventure, Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse. First released more than 20 years ago for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, this new-look Castle of Illusion is headed to downloadable platforms by the middle of the year.

Chris Olson, vice president of Digital Business at Sega of America explains:

The original Castle of Illusion was tremendously entertaining and has a well-deserved reputation as a SEGA classic. Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse brings this great game to a new generation. Mickey is back and he looks fantastic.

Castle of Illusion was a gamer’s dream back in 1990. Sega combined beautiful music and graphics together with the magic of Disney – and now it’s time to revisit that dream.

As you might expect, after a 20+ year gap, the new game’s being rebuilt from the ground up, bringing stunning visuals and some new gameplay mechanics to the mix. But, crucially, the story remains the same. Help Mickey save Minnie from the evil witch, Mizrabel!

In sadder news, this is the final project for Sega Studios Australia, which will be closed later in the year.
