Xbox 360 Minecraft delayed on way to retail

Sorry folks, the boxed copy of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition won’t be hitting shelves until June – and the reason is simple. The game just keeps changing too quickly, and the retail market isn’t quite sure how to keep up.

Creeper.

Creeper.

The news comes via Xbox spokesman Major Nelson, who announced via Twitter:

FYI: In order to include the very latest content, the retail version for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has been delayed until June 4 (US)

At this stage, there’s been no announcement about just what this “very latest content” will include, but here’s hoping it’s worth delaying the game for more than a month. (The retail edition of Minecraft was intended to release on April 30th.)

The change is unlikely to be a major drama for Mojang or Xbox – the online version of Minecraft has sold more than six million units since launch, described as a “system seller” for the Xbox 360 console.
