We’re the first to admit that we’re still rather confused about Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. What we do know: It’s set in 2007, as predicted in the 1980s. It’s full of neon. It is a standalone expansion, so you won’t need a copy of Far Cry 3 to get in on the action. It’s got Michael Biehn in it… and it’s due out from May 1st.
The trailer first blipped our radar on April 1st, which is the day everybody knows to ignore every single new announcement. Blood Dragon seemed too good to be true – or, at least, too unbelievable.
…but, as we move on, all signs point to this indeed being a real thing, with some screenshots leaked, and Xbox.com recently updated to include a listing of this upcoming title (the page has mysteriously disappeared now, though).
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is THE Kick-Ass Cyber Shooter taking place on a bizarre open-world island crawling with evil. Welcome to an 80’s VHS vision of the future. The year is 2007 and you are Sargent Rex Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando who’s fighting against a cyborg army gone rogue. Your mission: get the girl, kill the baddies, and save the world. Experience every cliché of a VHS era vision of a nuclear future, where cyborgs, blood dragons, mutants, and Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens, Navy Seals) collide. Playing Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon doesn’t require a copy of Far Cry 3.

At this stage, nobody’s quite figured out how Blood Dragon fits into the Far Cry mythology and storyline – or if it’s connected at all – but we’ve only got a few weeks left before all is revealed. Hopefully May 1st also brings details on other platforms, we’re hoping this one isn’t just an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive.
