Torment: Tides of Numenera is, officially, the most funded video game in Kickstarter history. It took just six hours to vault over the million-dollar mark, and a month later has raised nearly US$4.2 million in pledges.
The magic number, by the end of it all: US$4,188,927 (more than 450% of its original goal), making Tides of Numenera the most funded game of all time on the crowdfunding site, and second-most funded games-related project, behind independent console Ouya.
The extra money means both good things and bad things for long-time fans of traditional RPGs.
Good things: More content! Planescape: Torment designer Chris Avellone added to the development team! Greater final quality!
Bad things: Tides of Numenera will now not launch next year. All these extra stretch goals mean extra work for the developers, so the game will now not be ready until 2015. I hope you’re happy.
