Fuse sets a date to hit consoles with alien tech

Fuse has officially been given a release date – the near-future co-op experience crashlanding on PS3 and Xbox 360 from May 28th. The first multi-console project from Insomniac Games was originally scheduled to arrive in the over-crowded March timeframe, but a quick shuffle sees it now able to stretch its legs closer to the middle of the year.

A quick recap: Fuse is a new kind of arms race. Four elite, covert agents (Naya Deveraux, Jacob Kimble, Izzy Sinclair and Dalton Brooks), each have their own unique skills and weaponry, and are given the seemingly-simple task of protecting mankind from a deadly alien energy source.

Ted Price, CEO and Founder of formerly PlayStation-exclusive developer Insomniac Games explains:

Insomniac Games is known for delivering best-in-class weaponry that breaks the mold of traditional video games – and Fuse is no different. These xenotech weapons further the innovation players will find in this unique, action co-op shooter. We can’t wait to bring Fuse, our first multi-platform game, to gamers worldwide this May.

…but wait, there’s more! Pre-order Fuse from “select retailers” around the world, and you’ll unlock special weapon and armour customisation for each character.

  • Four Hyperion Prototype Agent Armor Skins— Upgrade your agents’ look with four special, state-of-the-art armor skins discovered inside the top-secret Hyperion Base.
  • Four Hyperion Prototype Weapon Skins— Customize your Fuse weapons with four skins based on each of the original prototypes developed inside Hyperion Base.
  • Quickdraw Team Perk— Increase your damage with this team perk adding powerful Fuse elements to all one-handed weapons for all four characters in your squad.

All of these perks are applied across the board, to each of the four characters in Fuse – which is good, because the game’s not designed for you to pick a character and stick in their skin for the entire round. Instead, use the Fuse LEAP feeature, switching between the four characters on the fly, even during combat.

Complete objectives, master kills, earn Fuse points and earn powerful upgrades – whether you’re playing online or off. Each character can pursue a number of different, unique paths, meaning the game’s progression depends somewhat on the choices you make, and the powerful Fuse-driven abilities you unlock.

Fuse arrives on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 28th in the US, 30th in Australia, and 31st in Europe and New Zealand. For more information about what’s in store, check our video interview with Irrational’s Creative Director, Brian Allgeier, and stay tuned!
