Carmageddon: Reincarnation gets cash injection

Bullfrog Productions founder Les Edgar has invested $3.5 million into Stainless Games, the team behind the upcoming reboot Carmageddon: Reincarnation. These funds are a hefty increase on top of the $625,000 raised through the title’s Kickstarter campaign last year – a significant leap towards its eventual release.

Stainless Games CEO Patrick Buckland is a bit pleased:

We are delighted to have fully funded Carmageddon: Reincarnation without having to go outside of the collective of our own company, shareholders, and fans. It allows us to maintain a true independence and creative control whilst not having to compromise quality or content by budgetary constraints.

Understandably, with a budget now more than five times what was anticipated, the studio is now able to add in all sorts of stretch goals. The main one: While Carmageddon: Reincarnation was originally promised for PC only, unspecified next generation platforms are now included on the list.

The investment has thrown the predicted release date into confusion: Nobody’s quite sure whether we’ll see Carmageddon: Reincarnation hit shelves now before the end of the year, but waiting a little longer for extra platforms seems entirely reasonable. In the meantime, if you simply must get your fix of motorised mayhem, grab your iDevice – the original Carmageddon has been treated to a delightfully authentic iOS version last year, with Android on its way.
