Disney Infinity has been delayed – and for once, it’s not the developer’s fault. Originally slated to arrive around the middle of the year, Disney has confirmed that it won’t be here until August, blaming retailers for the shift.
We could deliver in June if we wanted to. Will a two-month timing change help us? Sure, of course. It gives us a little more time to add bells and whistles and make sure it really sings and pops.
The delay puts the game into a “more favourable” retail window, as requested by game sellers who explain fans are typically more active in the later half of the year. It also ensures that Disney Infinity will hit shelves before rival Skylanders Swap Force, still scheduled for “Autumn” in North America.
However, Disney Interactive is reportedly relying on Disney Infinity to turn the struggling game unit’s fortunes around. The jump from June to August pushes that change from Q3 to Q4 – later than investors and analysts had hoped for.
Disney Infinity is now due in-store on August 18th in North America, and August 20th “overseas”.
