American McGee considers reclaiming Alice

Are you interested in a second sequel to American McGee’s Alice? That’s what the man himself wants to know, as he works out whether it’s worth acquiring the rights to the franchise from publisher EA.

In a Facebook post, McGee asks three simple questions.

  1. If we could get the rights from EA, would you play “Alice 3?”
  2. If you’d play “Alice 3,” would you back it on Kickstarter?
  3. If you said “yes” to those two things, make some noise

I’m trying to gauge interest in case I happen to discuss this with EA during GDC in 2 weeks. The more interest there is, the more seriously they’ll take the conversation.

Earlier this year, McGee confirmed that, when it comes to the Alice franchise, “I do have plans but I don’t have control“.

Now, it seems those plans may include crowd-funding, something McGee and his Shanghai-based studio Spicy Horse are well familiar with: The recently-released Akaneiro: Demon Hunters recently ran a successful Kickstarter campaign, raising $204k of its $200k goal. If interest is there for a sequel to Alice: Madness Returns, there’s no reason it couldn’t do the same thing.
