So many games left: Gilbert quits Double Fine

You just can’t keep a good man down, it seems. After sticking around at Double Fine long enough to make sure that The Cave was as good as it could be, industry veteran Ron Gilbert is moving on. Just as we were starting to get used to having him around, the Grumpy Gamer himself has announced that it is time to plot his next move – and we don’t just mean heading Down Under for the PAX Australia keynote, either.

I want to thank all the amazing people at Double Fine for all their hard work on The Cave. It was a true pleasure to work with every one of them over the past two years. So much fun. I will miss them all. And of course to Tim for creating the opportunity to come there and make The Cave.

One of his next moves looks to include the big reveal of a whole heap of behind-the-scenes goodies from The Cave. Gilbert has kicked things off with a neat, complete, map of the game, including some spoileriffic details on the positions of certain items.

That’s not the really exciting part, though. While he’s still not sure what he’ll be doing later on, Gilbert’s shed some light on what he’s doing right now:

Clayton Kauzlaric and I have been toiling away on another iOS side project that I’m going to focus on over the next few months. It’s called Scurvy Scallywags in The Voyage to Discover the Ultimate Sea Shanty: A Musical Match-3 Pirate RPG.

Of course, we expect nothing less from the creator of Monkey Island, do we?
