EA shuts down "too expensive" BioWare studio

Game developer BioWare San Francisco has shut down, laying off 25-30 staff. The studio was best known for browser-based Mirror’s Edge 2D and the Facebook adaptation of Dragon Age: Legends. Formerly known as EA2D was brought under the BioWare label in August 2011.

Today’s news follows the closure of EA Montreal in February, as part of a “transitioning” move that also saw jobs lost in California.

EA is remaining quiet on the topic, but sources have told GamesRadar the publisher found mobile development in California to be “too expensive”.
