Two weeks ahead of its official release date, Real Racing 3 has landed on the App Store in “select countries” including Australia and New Zealand. We can’t guarantee it’ll be available where you are, but it’s worth taking a moment to check – the third instalment of the award-winning racer is another step up for the franchise, this time showcasing iconic Australian landmarks like Mount Panorama and the city of Melbourne as well as real-world tracks for the first time.
Officially-licensed tracks are now a major part of Real Racing 3, with each location featuring an impressive 22-car grid, chosen from more than 45 meticulously detailed cars.
Kynan Woodman, is development director for Firemonkeys:
We’re excited to bring Real Racing 3 to the global stage, packed with all-new Australian features.
Those Aussie features include a unique track created specifically for the game, using GPS information from the city of Melbourne. Race past iconic landmarks like Flinders Street Station and Federation Square like you could never do in the real world!
But of course, that’s not all. Here are some more key features:
- REAL CARS – The largest ever roster of cars available in a Real Racing title.
- REAL TRACKS – A first for the Real Racing series! REAL PEOPLE – With Real Racing 3’s Time Shifted Multiplayer (TSM) you can race anyone, anytime, even if they’re offline!
- MORE CHOICE THAN EVER – Compete in 900+ events including cup races, elimination, endurance, and drag races.
- THE ULTIMATE RACING EXPERIENCE – Persistent car damage, fully functioning rear view mirrors, and dynamic reflections enhance the realism of the race day experience.
Even Aussie politicians enjoy a bit of gaming, with the Honourable Louise Asher, Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business and Tourism and Major Events showing her support for Real Racing 3:
People all over the world will soon be virtually racing the streets of Melbourne, featuring some of our most iconic sights, along with Melbourne branding throughout the track. We have had a games industry in Victoria for over 30 years and the state is home to around 75 games development studios, animation houses and games industry service providers and it is exciting to see this home-grown company become globally successful.
Real Racing 3 is out now, for free on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch in selected countries including Australia and New Zealand, with an Android version headed that way shortly. The rest of the world? You’ll just have to wait until February 28.
