FarmVille tv series in the works

We live in strange times, my friend. Not only is there a television series based on FarmVille on the way, but it will be produced by Brett Ratner, the man behind Prison Break, Skyline, Horrible Bosses and director of the Rush Hour series.

FarmVille 2

The news is oddly timed, following Zynga‘s bad news and poor quarterly performance revealed earlier in the week (culminating in the closure of three games).

That said, both FarmVille and sequel FarmVille 2 are still going strong, with Ratner quite excited about the project:

FarmVille is one of the most exciting brands out there today and its cross-platform opportunities are endless. I am thrilled to be expanding the brand with existing fans and also engaging a whole new audience.

The half-hour animated series is as-yet undated, with The Wall Street Journal reporting that Canadian company Six Eleven Media is producing, with Ratner as Executive, alongside Nina Gelb, Charles Bishop and Kirk Schenck.

It’s an unusual prospect, but if they can make a feature film out of Asteroids, they can make a kids’ show from Farmville. And, hopefully, it’ll be cute, which is enough.
