The MMO landscape is set to change in 2013, with the release of The Elder Scrolls Online from Bethesda and ZeniMax Online Studios. If you want to be a part of the action, beta signups are open right now, and we’ve got a brand new trailer to show off just what’s in store.
Matt Firor brings 20 years of online game development experience to the party, as game director of The Elder Scrolls Online:
We’re really excited to get the game into players’ hands. We receive invaluable feedback through the beta process, and that helps us ensure that the game will be one of the best online gaming experiences ever offered – one worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.
All you need to do is head to ElderScrollsOnline.com and fill out your details (including a few bits and pieces about your gaming rig). Then it’s just a matter of time. Bethesda has not yet announced the dates or details for the playtest, but “selected beta registrants” will be given early access to one of the year’s most anticipated titles.
The Elder Scrolls Online marks the first time that the award-winning Elder Scrolls experience dips its toe into the murkly online waters. It’s an all-new experience, boasting ZeniMax Online‘s shiny new Megaserver technology, featuring a built-in social network alongside the single connected world of the game. No need to worry about shard selection or trying to track down your friends in various places – TESO (as it is fondly known) promises “one of the most socially enabled games ever created”.
But! If you’re not the sociable type, and prefer to check things out at your own pace, in your own way, feel free – the epic quest across Tamriel is equally suited to playing alone just as nicely as it works with “hundreds of friends”.
There’s no release date for this one just yet, beyond a pleasantly nebulous “2013”, but we can tell you it’s headed exclusively to PC and Mac sometime in the next 12 months or so. Stay tuned, Bethesda isn’t going to be able to keep this one quiet.
