Last week, Temple Run 2 hit the iTunes App Store, and took just eight hours to hit the #1 Free App spot. Over the space of the next four days, the new game was downloaded more than 20 million times, and is currently the #3 Top Grossing App.
Want some more big numbers? Gamers have racked up more than 210 million Temple Run 2 gameplay sessions, with a combined time of more than 1,775 years of gameplay.
Keith Shepherd, co-founder of developer Imangi explains:
The response from fans has been overwhelming. We are thrilled players want more of the Temple Run universe, and we hope to grow and expand the game over the coming months.
Temple Run 2 is the first official sequel to the endless runner Temple Run, which first landed on iTunes back in August 2011. Since then, it’s been downloaded more than 170 million times across the App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Marketplace – but it looks like this newcomer will give it a run for its money.
2013 is the year of the curvy road, with Temple Run 2 also featuring new obstacles, abilities, player powers and achievements. There’s even hills and valleys thrown in as well, plus zip lines and speedy mine carts to help you on your quest to retain control of the Idol.
This won’t be the last we hear of Temple Run in 2013 either – with Imangi signing up to some very interesting licensing partnerships – keep an eye out for clothing, digital comics, card and board games, arcade machines and even pyjamas.
In the meantime though, if you just want to get your run on, Temple Run 2 is available right now in the iTunes App Store – for free! Android gamers must wait a little while longer, but we’re told the game’s set to arrive on your mobile handset “later this week”.
