It seems there’s only enough room in the multiverse for one Family Guy video game, and – at the moment – this year’s Back to the Multiverse is it. This means that Family Guy Online will never officially make it out of Open Beta, with the game officially shutting down on January 18, 2013.
First revealed back in June 2011 and launched into public beta in April 2012, the self-described “MMLOL” is a free-to-play, browser-based, massively multiplayer game set in Quahog. (If you haven’t heard about it yet, you’re probably figuring out why it didn’t do so well.)
Once the game is closed on January 18, 2013, you will no longer be able to access your Family Guy Online account or your Family Guy Online profile.
Preparations are already being made for the grand closure. The first step: Refunding all real-money purchases made within Family Guy Online since October 22nd, and disabling any future real-money transactions.
There has been no developer explanation offered for the closure, which is believed to be final.
