Trion Worlds joins studios hit by holiday job cuts

Still more drama comes to land at the feet of Trion Worlds, as the Rift publisher confirms an “undisclosed number” of layoffs at the company’s San Francisco studio. Despite the issues circling Trion‘s other project, End of Nations, we’re hearing that most of these new job cuts are impacting on the Rift development team.

The official word from Trion is about what you’d expect for any company organising layoffs at this time of year:

As a response to market conditions, product timelines and the natural evolution of our company, we have made some organizational changes, which include a workforce reduction. This was a difficult decision and we wish the best for those affected by these changes. At Trion, we remain focused on delivering top quality online game experiences, and are committed to supporting Rift and launching our highly anticipated new titles Defiance, Warface, and End of Nations in 2013.

As has become the norm, the news came to light through Twitter, where Trion Worlds senior engineer Toby Lael described “lots of really good people” being let go.

The news follows Trion‘s decision to bring End of Nations development back in-house, leading to layoffs at former developer Petroglyph Games.
