The new Community Market means that you’re able to buy and sell in-game items using your Steam Wallet funds – a big step beyond mere trading.
Valve‘s Tony Paloma explains:
With over a half million trades made every week, the trading system has been very successful. Extending game economies beyond trades and giving players a way to turn gameplay into funds for new items and games is a key component for moving that success forward.
Right now, the functionality is only available for Team Fortress 2, but in the new year, Community Market will be opened up to other Steam titles. Basically, pick any game that enables gamers to show off their items on the Steam Community, and chances are, you’ll be able to trade those items on the marketplace.
There is a catch – the dreaded transaction fees! – plus a few more details than all that, so make sure you have a read of the Community Market FAQ before you jump in.
