Sony quietly reveals web-based PlayStation Store

A short, sweet, and remarkably under-the-radar revelation from Sony today: A web-based version of the PlayStation Store is now available, so you no longer need to navigate the “insufferable”* PS3 store interface.

PlayStation Store - now accessible via your PC!

PlayStation Store – now accessible via your PC!

The new website – which has not yet been officially launched – offers add-ons, themes and avatars as well as full games and demo releases for PlayStation 3, PSP and Vita. Your purchases are added to the download queue on the appropriate device, and you’re good to go.

While Sony has not yet said much about the new service, SCEE Blog Manager Fred Dutton posted a comment on a recent blog post that confirms this is the real deal:

We are testing a new web store, which we look forward to announcing and launching to the PlayStation/Sony community shortly.

Stay tuned – and, if you’re in the market for a new game or two, or some other PlayStation content, head to!/en-gb/home/main and help out with the “testing”.

Sony did not call its own store “insufferable”. We’re just reporting things as we hear them on the streets, y0.

Thanks to eagle-eyed Amy Flower for spotting this one and saving us all a lot of time.
