Hawken delayed, open beta hits next week

One of the perils of picking an awesome release date for your new game is the fact that – sometimes – deadlines are there to be broken, and your project simply won’t be ready in time. Today’s example: Hawken, which unfortunately will miss its predicted 12/12/12 street date.

But it’s not all bad. Instead of getting the full game, you’ll get the next best thing: December 12th will mark the day the open beta for the upcoming mech combat shooter launches. So you’ll still get your gaming fix, it just won’t be quite as polished.

Hawken, in closed beta

Hawken, in closed beta

The reasoning is simple. Chris Lalli, Co-founder and Lead Animator at developer Adhesive Games, explains:

Open Beta is our chance to implement all the good feedback we’ve gotten from closed beta players on the forums, and deliver the changes the community wants to see. We have so much more to add to HAWKEN, lots of features, balance changes, and improvements. The Open Beta Event allows us flexibility to roll out these updates in waves, and get instant player feedback that will influence the final version of the game. The community will really have the ability to shape the game and be part of its development.

Fellow co-founder Khang Le continues:

It’s been a long road and I’m getting the jitter bug as we are getting near our Open Beta Event. Everyone on the team is putting in the extra effort to make the HAWKEN experience as fun as possible.

If you want to jump in on all this mech-y goodness, you’re in luck. Head over to http://www.playhawken.com and sign up – when the open beta kicks off next week, you’ll be right there amongst it.

Le is excited:

We would love to hear how to improve your experience, so don’t forget to join our forum and share your thoughts!”

There is currently no new release date for Hawken, but we’re hoping it’s not too far off.
