Original Ni No Kuni art style looked "too real"

So often these days, we hear about games – and almost all other media – striving for realism, trying to make something computer-generated look as lifelike as possible. Level-5 and Studio Ghibli are swiftly running in the opposite direction, performing a little creative trickery on motion-capture footage for Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch to make it look less human, and more animated.

The latest behind-the-scenes video, spotted by VG247 discusses the developer’s unique and authentic graphical style, while also giving some insight into the company behind Professor Layton, Inazuma Eleven and Guild01.

Ni No Kuni is headed to Europe, the US and other western territories in January for PS3 – if you can’t wait that long, there is a two-level playable demo out this week that will give you a quick taste.
