The latest video game/movie tie-in is set to bypass the big screen and go straight to the living room. That may be a blessing – we can’t find much information on the cinematic interpretation of Company of Heroes beside the fact it’ll hit Blu-Ray and DVD on March 19th.
I’ll let them tell the story:
During the last major German offensive of World War II, a company of American soldiers is lost behind enemy lines during the Battle of the Bulge and they make a horrific discovery – Hitler has a super bomb in development. The soldiers soon learn about a secret allied mission to retrieve a defecting German scientist in charge of a Hitler’s weapons program. Faced with impossible odds, the company and an escaping POW go on a daring raid into the heart of Nazi Germany in pursuit of the scientist.
And before you write this one off completely, it has some surprisingly big names reportedly* attached to it: Tom Sizemore (Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan), Chad Collins (Lake Placid 2, Sniper Reloaded), Vinnie Jones (The Tomb, Snatch), Neal McDonough (Captain America: The First Avenger, “Band of Brothers”), and Jürgen Prochnow (The Da Vinci Code, Das Boot). Rounding out the credits, the film was written by David Reed, produced by Phillip Roth and Jeffrey Beach, and directed by Don Michael Paul.
The Blu-ray and DVD release of Company of Heroes are also set to feature two “heroic” bonus featurettes: In the Trenches: Filming Company of Heroes (a behind-the-scenes look at the game-to-film transition), and Fabricating World War II which looks at how the vehicles and weaponry were created and used in the film.
Company of Heroes the movie is headed to Blu-ray and DVD on March 19th, 2013 – hopefully by this stage we’ve heard a little more about what on earth is going on.
* …we say reportedly because we weren’t kidding about there being virtually nothing about this film online. It doesn’t even have an IMDB page, which – as I’m sure you know – means it doesn’t actually exist.
