Mirror's Edge 2 in development at DICE?

The brilliant parkour action-adventure game Mirror’s Edge is almost possibly definitely getting a sequel, after years of rumours and speculation, and is in development at DICE according to a former Battlefield producer. Maybe.

In a tweet this morning, Ben Cousins, former Battlefield producer and currently head of ngmco Sweden studio head posted:

It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror’s Edge 2 is in production at DICE

The tweet was in response to an interview with EA Games vice-prez Patrick Söderlund, who told OXM:

The DICE guys are roughly 300 people in the Stockholm studio; not all of them are working on Battlefield things, and that’s intentional, because we don’t want to become a Battlefield factory. The minute we start saying ‘you’re going to make a Battlefield game for the rest of your life’, they’re going to go some place else. So for them to make great Battlefield games there need to be other things for them to do as well.

Rumours that Mirror’s Edge 2 has been in development have circulated ever since the release of the original Mirror’s Edge in 2008, and at E3 2011, Electronic Arts President Frank Gibeau confirmed that Mirror’s Edge 2, were it to be developed, would be powered by Frostbite 2.

Mirror’s Edge was released in 2008 and is available on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
