This whole “celebrities making game trailers” thing has just stepped up a notch, with Guy Ritchie announced as the director of the brand new live action trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Even bigger than that, Robert Downey Jr is also featured. The 60 second trailer, appropriately named “Surprise” was unveiled as part of Monday Night Football in the U.S., and is set to appear worldwide amidst high-profile telecasts.
The trailer itself is packed with both action and cameos: Internet celebrities iJustine and FPSRussia are joined by Omar Sy, one of France’s top comedic actors (and a massive Call of Duty fan, we’re told).
Tim Ellis, CMO, Activision Publishing explains:
With Call of Duty we are re-writing the rule-book of how games are marketed. This is more than a product launch, it’s become a cultural event. And, what Treyarch has created this year with Call of Duty: Black Ops II is nothing short of the most innovative Call of Duty title yet. So our mission is to meet this creativity with the most dynamic and far-reaching launch campaign we’ve ever done. Everything we do is geared toward reaching our fans — the best community in the world — to celebrate with them the launch this November 13th.
Around the world, Activision is reporting that more than 15,000 retail outlets will open their doors at midnight on Tuesday, November 13th for the launch of Black Ops II. Check out if your local is among them, and shop around until you find one that is!
