Facebook: Ghost Recon Commander cancelled

Ghost Recon Commander has been cancelled, somewhat unexpectedly. The Facebook-based “companion game” to Ubisoft‘s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier was created by Loot Drop, and – up until a few hours ago – seemed to be All Systems Go.

Three hours before, the developers had been crowing on Facebook about Ghost Recon Commander being named joint runner-up in the Golden Joystick Awards Best Free to Play Game.

…and then, the bombshell. Brenda Romero, co-founder of Loot Drop, announced the cancellation, appropriately on the developer’s Facebook page:

Sad news. Today, Ghost Recon Commander was cancelled. As a result, we laid off a team of awesome developers. If you have openings, especially in SF, ping me, or add your info after this post. Coders, artists, amazing assistant designer, and awesome QA guy.

The news comes just over a week after the company’s Old School RPG Kickstarter was cancelled, but Romero remains positive, explaining that there are still two games in the works (one live) and another project in the design stages.

Neither Loot Drop nor publisher Ubisoft has offered any explanation for the cancellation, which seems to have been a little unexpected.
