Oz Comic-Con has just announced new dates for both the Adelaide and Perth shows in 2013, as well as a very special guest. The event now avoids a potentially disastrous clash with both a major music festival and the largest motorsport event held in South Australia, and William Shatner – Captain James T. Kirk himself – has been announced to appear at both events.
A post on the event’s Facebook page explains everything:
As you may have already noticed, the Clipsal 500 dates in Adelaide have recently been confirmed. Unfortunately, those dates are the same as our upcoming Oz Comic-Con Adelaide event. If you’re not aware what Clipsal does to Adelaide, just ask anyone who lives there. Over a quarter of a million people attend the races and various race functions over a four day weekend, hotel prices double or triple, parts of the city are shut down for the race, flight costs increase, public transport is altered to suit the event, and more. It takes a courageous soul to brave the city for anything other than the race. Let’s put it this way; when your venue advises you to change your event dates, you should listen.
The Oz Comic-Con team then spent quite a while shuffling puzzle pieces around, trying to make things fit for both cities. After switching event weeks, putting Adelaide first, putting Perth first, changing venues and generally bending over backwards, a solution was found, and it’s arguably even better than the original dates.
Oz Comic-Con Perth will be held on March 9-10, 2013 – and has moved from the Claremont Showground to the Perth Exhibition Centre.
Oz Comic-Con Adelaide will be a week later, on March 16-17, and retains its original venue of the Adelaide Showgrounds.
If you have already purchased tickets, you will be contacted shortly and advised of your options, which may include refunds or simply shifting over to the new dates.
Now – the guest of honour: William Shatner. He will be attending both events, and if you pick up specialty tickets, you can guarantee photographs and autographs with the actor, reserved seating at an exclusive panel, and plenty more to keep the Trekkies (and others!) happy.
