While we wait for Grand Theft Auto V to emerge from its cocoon, Rockstar Games has celebrated an anniversary. It’s been ten years since GTA: Vice City arrived on the PlayStation 2 – and it’s time for a comeback.
Later this year, Rockstar is planning a release of GTA: Vice City on a “wide range” of iOS and Android devices – and if the ESRB is to be believed, that ain’t all.
Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games explains:
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City gave players the freedom of a massive open-world in one of the most iconic and vibrant settings ever realized in a game. It was a defining moment in the series and we’re delighted to be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with a stunning, updated version for phones and tablets.
According to the official info from R*, you can expect a series of “commemmorative assets” – including never-before-seen artwork, an all-new anniversary trailer, and a bunch of collectable promotional items both through online stores and a handful of selected giveaways.
But while the publisher is only acknowledging the mobile reboot, eagle-eyed gamers have spotted one more place the game might be popping up in the near future. The American classification board – the ESRB – has rated both Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas for release on PlayStation 3. Both games were originally released exclusively for PS2, as follow-ups to the critically-acclaimed Grand Theft Auto III.
In July of this year, GTA 3 was re-released as a PS2 Classic for the PlayStation 3 – could Vice City and San Andreas be next on the list?
