Second lot of Steam Greenlight games revealed

When it comes to Steam Greenlight, publisher Valve had intended to reveal the most successful games a few at a time. The original announcement featured ten great titles, and the intention was to reveal a further ten today. However, the publisher was overwhelmed by “the number and quality” of games submitted, so today’s list is a whopping 21 games.

Steam Greenlight

The games themselves are, again, a mixed bag, ranging from fantasy, RPG, platformer, puzzler, shooter, horror, a multiplayer airship pirate game and, ahem, Postal 2 Complete.

  • Afterfall InSanity Extended Edition
Afterfall: InSanity: a story driven survival action game that provides a healthy dose of fear and adrenaline.
  • AirBuccaneers
Multiplayer airship pirate game with shamanistic Buccaneers and infamous Vikings fighting over domination of the North. This cooperative 1st person game requires seamless teamwork and strategic battle skills.
  • Blockscape
Blockscape is the next generation voxel sandbox game. You play in a computer generated world made out of blocks.
  • Contrast
Experience a surreal 1920s dreamscape in which you can shift freely in and out of shadow. Tasked with helping a young girl named Didi, you will unravel the mysteries behind her troubled family and the dark secrets that must be exposed to re-shape her future.
  • Fly’n
FLY’N is a PC platformer in which you control four original characters with their own complementary abilities. They are the guardians of the World-Trees: the Buds
  • Folk Tale
Dive into the comedy-fantasy world of Folk Tale and lead your illiterate subjects to greatness, in spite of their moronic efforts to undermine you.
  • Forge
Forge is an online, class based multiplayer shooter set in a unique fantasy setting.
  • Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (Project Giana)
Project Giana is a challenging fast-paced platformer with a twist. You can warp Giana’s dream world to transform your abilities and surroundings.
  • Gnomoria
Gnomoria is a sandbox village management game where you help lead a small group of gnomes, who have set out on their own, to thrive into a bustling kingdom!
  • Interstellar Marines
Interstellar Marines is a sci-fi FPS action and adventure game with an original and unpredictable storyline featuring single and cooperative gameplay, with heavy focus on realism.
  • Lost Story: The Last Days of Earth
Many have heard of the “Seven Hour War”, but few know what happened before and after. Witness the fall of mankind through the eyes of Jack Trevor, a survivor. Will your attempts to change the course of history be fruitful, or futile?
  • Miasmata
Miasmata is a game of survival, exploration and discovery. Our goal was to create gameplay that was unconventional.
  • Miner Wars 2081
Miner Wars 2081 is a 6DOF action-survival space-shooter simulation-game set in the year 2081, 10 years after the destruction of all planetary objects in Solar System.
NEOTOKYO is a first person shooter that provides a visceral & realistic combat experience in a rich futuristic setting.
  • Octodad: Dadliest Catch
Octodad: Dadliest Catch is the sequel to the splash hit, Octodad! This time, our cephaloprotagonist has gotten himself in a bind between his wife’s mounting mistrust, and a disastrous trip to the local aquarium!
  • Perpetuum
Perpetuum is a persistent, sandbox, single server, massively multiplayer sci-fi rpg (MMORPG). Players control huge robots and mechs on the planet Nia to gain access to the planet’s resources and knowledge, to amass huge wealth or even to claim part of the game world for themselves via terraforming and building settlements with complex infrastructures to deny unwanted visitors access.
Live a week in the life of “The Postal Dude”; a hapless everyman just trying to check off some chores. Buying milk, returning an overdue library book, getting Gary Coleman’s autograph, what could possibly go wrong?
  • Secrets of Grindea
Secrets of Grindea is an old-school Action RPG with co-op support for up to 4 players. It is a tribute to and sometimes a parody of the old SNES games so many of us grew up with and loved!
  • The Intruder
The Intruder is a survival horror game where you go prepare yourself for the imminent, inescapible encounter with the eponymous Intruder.
  • The Stanley Parable: HD Remix
The game is an experiment in video game storytelling, or the point of it might be that there’s actually no story at all, or maybe the point is that there’s no game. It’s about choice and freedom, possibly, but actually it might be about something else.
  • Yogventures!
Yogventures! is an open world sandbox adventure game featuring characters developed by Simon and Lewis of The Yogscast!

Let’s not judge Postal 2 for the sins of the sequel. While Postal 3 is, undeniably, a very, very bad game, Postal 2 does have some redeeming qualities, if you’re into that sort of thing. It’s certainly not for everybody, but spending a week in the life of The Postal Dude does have its charms.

Another reason why there are so many games Greenlit this month (which illustrates Valve‘s dedication to indie games), is that many of the top-ranking titles have a proposed shipping date that’s not so far in the future. Delaying these games for the next batch might have meant missing out on Steam distribution on launch, a situation nobody wanted.

That doesn’t mean that all of these games will be published and playable immediately – just like the first set, the titles are in varying stages of completion and will be released independently over the next few months.
