Just in case Halo 4 wasn’t going to be spectacular enough, we’ve just been told that two of Hollywood’s finest are also contributing. David Fincher, director of Fight Club, The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (among others) has teamed up with Tim Miller, visual effects lead for the incredible Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, to create the game’s two-minute long launch trailer.
The trailer – titled Scanned – will deliver an “emotionally-charged” look at the backstory of Master Chief, the iconic hero of Halo 4. Filmed in Prague, the trailer also gives a glimpse of the game’s new enemies, the Prometheans. And yes, it’s live-action, and it continues the franchise’s tradition of branching out into all sorts of media above and beyond video games. We’ve already seen the Halo series generate more than US$3 billion and sell more than 43 million games, but it’s this sort of cross-media development that really makes Microsoft‘s efforts stand out.

It’s not the first time Miller and executive producer Fincher have worked together – the pair collaborated to create the title sequence for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – and Fincher is more than happy to repeat the experience:
