While Rayman Legends looks better and better every time we see it, the game has officially been delayed until the first quarter of 2013. Technically, it still squeaks in as a Wii U launch window title, but it definitely won’t be one that you’ll be able to pick up as soon as the console hits shelves.
Publisher Ubisoft explains that the delay will – wait for it – give the development team “more time” to work on the game. Another – slightly more cynical – way of looking at it requires a careful perusal of the Wii U launch lineup. It’s possible that Ubisoft has simply decided not to put its flagship platformer up against the daddy of them all, New Super Mario Bros. U.
Ubisoft has said in a statement that it is “taking the time to make sure we deliver a game that lives up to and hopefully exceeds their expectations.”
What we’ve seen of the game so far suggests it’s on the right track, but it still can’t hurt to launch into a less-crowded marketplace.
