EA: First publisher to support GaymerCon

Despite a notable exception or two, the gaming industry as a whole is getting a little bit excited about GaymerCon the first ever tech/gaming convention focussing on LGBTQ culture. Illustrating that point today? The first publisher involvement announcement, from world’s largest third-party gaming publisher: Electronic Arts.

EA is supporting GaymerCon

Super pretty.

Ginger Maseda, Global Diversity and Inclusion for EA explains:

EA believes that to be truly innovative, you must be inclusive. We are proud to be a part of this event.

The publisher is by no means alone in their support, with the Xbox Live team and Penny Arcade also signing up.

GaymerCon Industry Relations Director Jack DeVries continues:

EA not only publishes some of the best games in the world, but they’re the most progressive company in the industry. We’re thrilled and honored to have them involved in GaymerCon.

Started by a diverse team, containing everything from comic book artists to engineers to “professional fundraisers”, GaymerCon is lead by a group of tech and gaming professionals based primarily in San Francisco and Seattle, with offshoots popping up around the world. The event aims to cater for LGBTQ folks of “every creed and colour”, but particularly those of the geeky persuasion.

GaymerCon is scheduled for August 3-4, 2013 in where else but San Francisco.
