Deep Silver set the bar mighty high with that trailer for the original Dead Island. Now, the studio has released a cinematic look at the follow-up, Dead Island Riptide, and while it might not be quite as jawdropping as the earlier clip, the studio’s certainly still got it.
Furious monsoon rainstorms have laid waste to the island of Palanai in the Banoi archipelago, waters have risen and caused a flood disaster – because of this and the raging zombie invasion, a rescue mission for the survivors seems to be without prospect of success. All hope seems to have been lost for the surviving humans…
And yes, that is an Australian flag rippling in the breeze at the beginning there, which is a little bit awesome, thanks Deep Silver!
Dead Island Riptide has been created to “reanimate” the zombie terror of Dead Island, in a slightly different setting. The city of Henderson, and the jungle areas of Palanai have been flooded, meaning boats are now your only form of transportation. Adding a little extra excitement is the dynamic weather conditions, meaning your team’s visibility is constantly changing.
Just like the last game, the value of the team as a whole is greater than the sum of its parts – a new fifth character brings a unique skillset that is invaluable against the new and unknown zombie mutations popping up around the island.
Expect new gameplay modes like Hub Defense (where you’ll need to place maps, fences and turrets to protect the humans and fend off the undead), and new communication features to strengthen the team co-op experience.
Dead Island Riptide is due out in 2013 for PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
