Last week, we learned that City of Heroes was facing an inevitable sunset, with NCSoft shutting both the game and the developer by the end of September. Now though, it looks like there’s a faint glimmer of hope, as Paragon reports it is “in discussions” over the fate of the game.

An in-game announcement from Alpha Wolf was short and sweet:
Sorry guys but I don’t have any new update. I know Paragon management is having discussion with ncsoft and investors. Continue get people to sign online petitions, post on game forums, and just continue to make noises so ncsoft cannot ignore players.
The “online petition” referred to is one that was set up to keep the game’s servers running – at time of writing, it has more than 14,000 signatures.
I want everyone to please temper their expectations with the word ‘discussions’. Please, don’t take this to mean more than it does, at this point in time.
City of Heroes had been around for eight years, and enjoyed some success as the world’s first super-hero MMO. Last week’s news came as a shock to many, who were disappointed that the game was taking the fall for NCSoft‘s other, less-successful titles.
