Black Mesa Source mod finally sets a date

Valve is notorious for its policy of not releasing games until they’re “done” – so why should a mod based on one of Valve‘s projects be any different?

That said, it feels like we’ve been waiting forever for Black Mesa Source to arrive… but now there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Mark the calendar: September 14th.

Black Mesa Source

They’re waiting for you Gordon…

We’ve finally been given a countdown timer, and that’s the date it’s ticking towards.

But there’s a catch. Project lead Carlos Montero has announced in a community post that this won’t necessarily be the complete game.

We are still working hard on Xen and BMDM, but instead of making you wait we are giving you Black Mesa as soon as it’s ready! We’re doing our best to help bring the immense vision of this project into reality, and we are very excited for what the future brings!

What will be released on September 14th is nothing to laugh at: A complete re-envisioning of the original Half-Life, all the way up to Lambda Core. The devs claim this will give most gamers a “complete-feeling” 8-10hr gaming experience, complete with a solid ending.

Black Mesa Source is a total conversion mod for Half-Life 2, which retells the story of the original Half-Life, accented with all the bells and whistles that the Source Engine has to offer.
