Delighting gamers around the world, Bastion is headed to iPad – it’ll be in your region as soon as the clock ticks over to August 30th. If you’ve only got an iPhone or iPod touch, you’re outta luck – “technical reasons” mean this one’s only available on Apple’s tablet, with Supergiant Games explaining that “the game experience would not translate well to the iPhone’s smaller screen.”
The default controls are designed to be easy to pick up, while allowing you to maneuver with finesse through the game’s scenarios. Touch anywhere on the screen to move to that point, or press and hold onscreen to make the Kid move in that direction. Double-tap to perform a quick Evasive Roll. The Kid will attack automatically when foes or obstacles get in range. You can manually fire certain weapons and can also use the Bullhead Shield to defend, or use a Secret Skill to quickly dispatch foes. You can carry two weapons at a time and freely switch between the two at the touch of a button.
As well as all that, Bastion has been given a bit of an HD 4:3 graphical makeover to best suit the hardware’s Retina display (don’t worry if you don’t have a New iPad, this’ll run just fine on the iPad 2, but first-generation iPads and iPhones are a no-go).
The game also features more than 20 Game Center achievements, and if you’re not keen on the default controls, there’s also a Classic Control setting which givesyou a virtual joystick to play with.
Supergiant Games did the whole project in-house, thanks to some new additions, and promise that Bastion on iPad is a “complete and immersive experience”, so don’t think they’re going to slug you with in-app purchases or microtransactions.
For more information on just what the devs got up to and what you can expect in Bastion for iPad, head to the official Supergiant website and check out the blog. Once you’ve done that, you should be convinced, so pop on over to the iTunes App Store and snag yourself a copy for less than five bucks!
