Green Day brings the punk to Angry Birds Friends

Not quite sure how to feel about this, but here goes: American punk rock band Green Day will appear in a new, musical episode of Angry Birds Friends. The three band members – Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt – will appear in-game as all-new bad pig characters, starring in ten never-before-seen themed levels.

While we’re digesting that, I’d like to also mention that the band’s latest single, Oh Love is also available via the game, and new song Troublemaker will be an Angry Birds Friends exclusive. Even more exclusive content and extra levels are on the way a little later this year, says Rovio.

Company CMO and Mighty Eagle Peter Vesterbacka explains:

We are beyond excited. Two amazing brands working together on a one-of-a-kind collaboration — we can’t wait for our fans to explore this new Green Day world.

This collaboration is the first of its kind for Rovio, giving the developer a whole bunch of music and video to mash up with its award-winning gameplay.

The band themselves are pretty pleased with the outcome, as singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong explains:

We’re all fans of Angry Birds. It’s such an addictive game that when we first started playing it we couldn’t stop. Go Team Green!

Formerly known as Angry Birds Facebook, Angry Birds Friends is a free-to-play online version of Rovio‘s game featuring power-ups and social elements, and (surprise!) it’s only available on Facebook.
