PopCap plants seeds for Plants vs Zombies sequel

PopCap Games has laughed in the face of rumoured lay-offs, instead announcing a sequel to one of its most popular games. Plants vs. Zombies will be getting an as-yet-unnamed follow-up in the North American spring of 2013. Appropriate, no?

Apparently “germinating and advancing with rigor” (no, that’s not a typo), the sequel to Plants vs. Zombies has been going on for some time, underground. We’re not sure quite what to expect beyond “more of the same” (never a bad thing), but PopCap is also promising “a bevy” of new features, settings and situations.

Details are pretty slim, but an unidentified spokesperson has broken the silence with this public statement:

Spring is crullest curlie ungood time, and plantz grow dull roots. So, we are meating you for brainz at yore house. No worry to skedule schedlue plan… we’re freee anytime. We’ll find you.

Sonny F. Lower is a representative of the Flora Forever Foundation, who seems to have differing opinions:

There was a time we relished a bracing, hearty blend of zombies, in the morning. But first, a brisk shower and some strategic pruning are required. Tomorrow is near!

In all seriousness, more than a billion people have played PopCap‘s games – including Plants vs. Zombies, Bejeweled, Zuma, Peggle and Bookworm. After more than a decade of bringing casual, mobile and social games to the masses, the company’s figured out exactly what it needs to do in order to succeed – and that’s maintain a quirky, one-of-a-kind blend of attention to detail, art, polish, and humour. The sequel to Plants vs. Zombies should be no different.
