Portal 2 is officially in spaaaaaaace!

The Space Core from Portal 2 has finally completed its mission, thanks to an anonymous tech at NASA. A little laser engraving here, a little sense of humour there, and one of the panels of the Japanese HTV-3 resupply craft now features everybody’s favourite personality core, headed towards the International Space Station.

Portal 2 on the Japanese HTV-3 resupply craft

In spaaaaaaace!

We thought that taking Mass Effect into the atmosphere was a pretty big deal, but this goes one step further. The HTV-3 resupply craft – also known as ‘White Stork’ or Kounotori3 – launched on Friday evening, Japanese time. It is sheduled to complete its journey on Friday July 27th, when it will be berthed to the Harmony module of the ISS. The vehicle is carrying nearly 4 tons of supplies – food, hardware, and a brand new remote-controlled Earth-observing camera system.

The photograph above was sent to Valve by a NASA technician. Valve would like to take this opportunity to point out that the space administration does not endorse laser-engraving video game characters onto their space craft. In fact, NASA does not endorse Portal 2, “despite the fact that it’s a really excellent game”.
