Gamers who pick up the new Wasteland 2 when it’s officially launched will get a sneaky retro bonus thrown in: A copy of the original Wasteland, thrown in absolutely free. Consider it a chance to remind yourself of just why the game is considered one of the godfathers of post-apocalyptic RPGs, and to see how well a game created in 1988 can stand up today.
As for why the game is being included? It’s all your fault, says Brian Fargo:
The #1 request we had during our Kickstarter campaign was to have the ability to play the first game. Fortunately EA has continued to support us on this project and has granted us the ability to bring the original to the players. It is great to be able to make Wasteland available for those feeling nostalgic or who want to experience it for the first time. It certainly will not be a pre-requisite to understand Wasteland 2, but it adds some extra flavor if you did play the prequel.
Wasteland 2 is in the works at new studio InXile, and was successfully funded via Kickstarter in April. No official release window has been mentioned just yet, but pledge rewards are due out in roughly October 2013.
