Beatle McCartney working on new Bungie project

Back in January this year, former Beatle Paul McCartney announced he was working on a video game (well, the soundtrack, at least). He’s kept quiet on the project since then, but a social media update over the weekend suggests that, perhaps, this gaming project is none other than the new one from Bungie.

McCartney writes on his Facebook page:

I’m really excited to be working on writing music with Bungie, the studio that made Halo.

Now, on paper, Bungie is currently working with Activision on an as-yet unnamed project. The wonders of the internet mean we’ve managed to collect some hints as to what exactly the new game is, however: Thanks to the publisher’s drawn-out legal case against former Infinity Ward staffers over the affair known as Fall of Duty, Activision was forced to lay a lot of its cards on the table. One of these cards revealed that the Halo creator was going back to its roots, working on the first new Marathon game since 1996.

Putting all the pieces together – and adding a healthy dash of wishful thinking – all signs point to McCartney penning the tunes to the reboot of the classic sci-fi FPS. If we’re lucky, it’ll sound more like his recent work with The Fireman, rather than Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.
