Finally, Scribblenauts is coming to consoles with Scribblenauts Unlimited. And not just any console, but the create-your-own adventure game is headed to the Wii U, in perhaps one of the neatest uses of the new hardware that we were able to see at E3.
It’s a huge leap for the franchise – and we don’t just mean the move from handhelds and smartphones. Main character Maxwell actually gets a story this time around and we are given a reason to collect Starites. 5th Cell producer (and classical ballet dancer) Brittany Aubert told us all about the game’s object editor, the new HD graphics, and why the Wii U was the perfect new home for Scribblenauts Unlimited.
Meanwhile, my bias is showing. Scribblenauts Unlimited is also coming to 3DS, meaning you can still get your object-creatin’ fix right in your pocket (sorry, still no Chuck Norris or Justin Bieber). The portable version also uses Nintendo‘s Street Pass functionality, giving you a glimpse at how people nearby may have solved the same puzzle you’re stuck on.
…and there are plenty of puzzles that may prove problematic: 41 levels, 50+ starites and 500+ starite shards all add up to more than 20 hours of solid gameplay, plus (of course) countless hours of sandboxin’ your way around each level.
Scribblenauts Unlimited is headed to both Wii U and 3DS by the 2012 holiday season, depending on just when the Wii U console arrives on shelves.
