Saints Row: The Third – Enter the Dominatrix was first announced as an April Fools’ gag from Volition and THQ. Then, it was confirmed as an Actual Thing, a new expansion pack for last year’s controversial best-seller. Now though, THQ has backflipped – again – and announced that Enter the Dominatrix will instead be incorporated into “the next great sequel” in the Saints Row franchise.
…the new game? No official announcements as yet, but Volition has revealed it is tentatively titled The Next Great Sequel in the Saints Row Franchise. (Ahem.)

The change in direction comes from new THQ president Jason Rubin, who believes the fully-fledged sequel has “far greater” potential than a mere expansion pack.
When I looked at the Enter The Dominatrix expansion in production at Volition, I was blown away by the ideas and desire to expand the fiction of the franchise.
I asked the team what it could achieve given more time, more resources, and a broader scope for the project. We all agreed we wanted to play that game. When it comes to Saints Row, it’s clear our fans want bigger, better, and even more over the top, and that’s why Enter The Dominatrix will now be incorporated into a vastly expanded, full-fledged sequel, scheduled for calendar 2013.
Of course, as with any major changes to release lineups, THQ has had to reshuffle its calendar and its predicted earnings. With Enter the Dominatrix no longer in the 2013 fiscal year (currently predicted for fiscal 2014, with no dates as yet), a bunch of net sales have also been moved. The company now predicts a reduction of around $20 million to its non-GAAP sales, translating to roughly three cents per share in fiscal 2013, compared to earlier announcements. Still, I doubt you’ll see too many Saints Row fans objecting to the reasoning behind the change!
