Diablo III patch packs gifts for WoW fans

With the dust now settling after Diablo III‘s rocky launch, intrepid fans are starting to find bits and pieces tucked within the game – and the upcoming 1.0.3 patch – which suggest Blizzard will be rewarding fans of the game who also play a little World of Warcraft.

Specifically, tucked away inside the Diablo III patch files there is evidence that suggests there are hidden perks for gamers who own – and play – both Diablo III and the upcoming Mists of Pandaria expansion for WoW.

First up: Panda-monium, a new Feat of Strength that can be unlocked by registering your copy of the Mists of Pandaria Collector’s Edition.

There’s also a new banner sigil and accent combo, complete with pandaren-style illustrations and a tell-tale panda face.

Not enough? How about a string “SpecialGiftWingsBuff_name – Collectors Edition Buff”, attached to a lovely pair of black demon wings? (Nobody’s quite sure if this last one is specifically attached to the MoP CE, but look at that string!

It’s a nifty little bit of cross-promotion from Blizzard, following a promising trend from the publisher. Already, World of Warcraft fans who snapped up the game’s Annual Pass have already received a free copy of Diablo III, and now we’re seeing things go in the opposite direction. With Diablo fans traditionally the completist type, it’s fair to say that there will be at least a handful who buy – and register – the MoP CE just to get a shiny new pair of wings…

The 1.0.3 patch for Diablo is due out “this month”, according to Blizzard – whether that means on the 30th or as soon as tomorrow remains to be seen. All of the other unofficial changes dug up out of the patch (there’s plenty more than just these WoW-related tidbits) can be found at Diablo Fans – they’re somewhat experts in this stuff.
