11 Video Interview: Raven's Cry

Regardless of which side of the fence you are on, the traditional pirate is pretty cool. Unfortunately, in more recent times, the manly, swashbuckling anti-hero has toned down the dark and brooding, while upping the slapstick, the cliched costumes and the hints of alcoholism. No longer are these peg-legged chaps the terror of the seas, instead they’ve become the punchline to some sort of stereotypical joke.

Adam Kennedy from Topware Interactive has set out to change this, taking back the pirate genre and making it gritty, dark and rather frightening in the upcoming argggh-pg Raven’s Cry (sorry, was that disrespectful?).

We had a chance to check out Raven’s Cry while at E3 last week, and while the game is still in pre-alpha, it’s looking pretty darn shiny, with some of the best in-game cinematography we’ve seen in a long time.

Adam and his team are remarkably passionate about the game – and about pirates in general. In the short time we spent with the game, he filled our heads with all sorts of piratical trivia: The truth behind the eye-patch is just the tip of the iceberg.

Forget everything you know about pirates. Forget Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann. Forget the Dread Pirate Roberts, Captain Hook and the awful Guybrush Threepwood. Christopher Raven is the real deal – vengeful, violent and greedy – and he’s set to shine a new light on piracy with Raven’s Cry.

It’s E3 time – and for Player Attack, that means plenty of videos for you to watch. To see what we’ve been up to, check the E3 2012 events page, or hop over to our Blip.tv channel.
