With GAME Australia going into voluntary administration yesterday, gamers around the country have been “left out in the cold on what should be the hottest night of the year”, as Diablo III servers open this afternoon local time.
Technically, GAME stores are under no obligation to honour preorders – and while some may have stock and the ability to distribute it – that’s not guaranteed and a number of gamers are destined to miss out. Happily though, Blizzard is taking steps to minimise the impact and get everybody into Sanctuary as soon as possible.
On the game’s official forums, Community Manager Lylirra has explained that Australian GAME customers with a valid preorder/prepurchase receipt dated before May 15th 2012 should follow this procedure:
- Purchase the digital version of Diablo III from http://www.diablo3.com now or anytime before May 21, 2012.
- Download and start playing when the servers go live!
- Submit your GAME Australia preorder/prepurchase receipt to us before June 30, 2012.
- Receive a credit from Blizzard, for the amount you paid in advance to GAME Australia for Diablo III. This credit will be applied to the payment method used for the digital purchase.
…while this isn’t an ideal situation – and you will require a little extra cash – it still means that most gamers will be able to snag a copy of Diablo III on launch date.
Blizzard customer service is currently sorting out just how they’ll want you to submit your original GAME Australia receipts (copies just won’t cut it, guys), so go, get playing, and we’ll fix everything up later.
