The fabled South Park roleplaying game in the works at Obsidian has been given an official title, if not an official release date.
With a sly nod to Terry Goodkind and his thirteen-book epic fantasy series, the Xbox Live Marketplace has been updated to reveal… South Park: The Stick of Truth.

From the perilous battlefields of the fourth-grade playground, a young hero will rise, destined to be South Park’s savior. From the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, comes an epic quest to become… cool. Introducing South Park: The Stick of Truth.
We’re also promised two player off-line co-op mode, Dolby digital sound and the potential for “content downloads” in the future.

Goodkind’s novels – starting with Wizard’s First Rule back in 1994 – tell the story of The Seeker, Richard Cypher, whose weapon of choice is (wait for it): The Sword of Truth. The first books were adapted into a two-season television series created by Sam Raimi.
While the still images are promising, and the description is glowing, we still haven’t seen the game in action, meaning nobody’s quite sure what’s in store from Obsidian. South Park: The Stick of Truth is currently in development for Xbox 360, PC and PS3, and is due some time before the end of the year.
