Fans of Rockstar Games will tell you that the developer is well known for crafting superior soundtracks to accompany its video games. Of course, Max Payne 3 is no exception, with musical accompaniment penned by American noise band Health.
For snippets of just what the band has in store, check out this latest TV spot from the game, which features the song Tears.
…like it? It’s yours! Well, it will be yours, on May 15th, when the Tears single catapults onto iTunes on the same day as the game arrives on shelves.
Ivan Pavlovich has the enviable job title of Rockstar Soundtrack Supervisor:
By using a band instead of a traditional composer, we’ve created a soundtrack that sounds completely unique. HEALTH have created hundreds of hours of amazing music for the game’s score, and distilled it into a devastatingly moody and atmospheric soundtrack album.
The album is more than just a fun collection of music, too – Heath sat down and carefully considered each inclusion. Careful listening will reveal influences from both Brazil – where the game is set, and New York, where Max is from. There are also elements of the original game theme tucked away in there too, amid a blend of rock, electronica and “powerful drums”.
John Famiglietti from Health explains:
Working on the soundtrack to Max Payne 3 was a great experience. Rockstar gave us the freedom to bring our own sound to Max’s dark story, and we’re really proud of the results.
Want more? The full soundtrack for the game is due out digitally on May 23rd, and promises a new, exclusive song from Brazilian hip-hop artist Emicida alongside the creations by Health.
