"No plans" for The Walking Dead to hit Australia

It seems that Australian gamers are set to miss out on another game, with Telltale Games apparently deciding not to release the horror comic tie-in The Walking Dead for consoles Down Under.

Rather than make any official statement or response to any queries, Telltale spokesman Mark posted a simple comment on the game’s forums:

Sorry, but due to the OFLC ratings laws in Australia and New Zealand, and the fact that this is a mature game, we do not currently have plans to release the game there on consoles.

That doesn’t mean the zombie-filled game has been banned, refused classification or otherwise forbidden – it instead suggests that Telltale decided a local console release would be more effort than it was worth, and chose to leave us out.

It’s worth noting that The Walking Dead is still available via Steam at time of writing. However, the game was also due to release on PSN earlier this week with an XBLA date in the not-so-distant future. Gamers started asking questions when it didn’t appear in their Australian console stores, and rumours quickly started circulating that the country’s arcane censorship had something to do with it. Despite the game being no more violent or offensive than many others on the market, it looks like they were right.

We have contacted both the Australian Classification Board to find out if the game has at least been submitted, as well as Telltale, to see if there is any more information behind the decision.
