UTV Ignition hands Dragon's Crown to Atlus

Dragon’s Crown has officially been handed over from UTV Ignition Games to new publisher Atlus and developer Vanillaware.

We haven’t heard much from the 2D action RPG since E3 last year other than a flurry of cancellation rumours, but it looks like it’s full speed ahead now, with Dragon’s Crown headed to both PS3 and PlayStation Vita some time next year.

The official statement reads that UTV Ignition is no longer involved in any part of Dragon’s Crown, but doesn’t go into detail regarding the split.

Lokesh Dhar, senior vice president of the company, explains:

While we are saddened to no longer be associated with the Dragon’s Crown project, we are very confident that the title is in excellent hands with Atlus. Since the initial announcement, information on timing and features in the game have changed and other details regarding design and functionality are yet to be determined. We are confident that Atlus and Vanillaware will deliver the finest game possible.

The game itself – one which Atlus seems a bit proud of – sees a band of six adventurers roaming labyrinths in order to find the fabled treasure, including the legendary Dragon’s Crown of the title.

At this stage, we haven’t seen much, but we’re promised four-person online multiplayer and a few other interesting bits and pieces, so it’ll be interesting to see where Vanillaware takes the project.
