Zipper finished: Sony announces studio closure

‘Tis the season, unfortunately – after weeks of speculation and rumour, Sony has confirmed that SOCOM developer Zipper Interactive has been shuttered, the Seattle-based studio a victim of yet another industry re-shuffling.

The official message from Sony explains:

The closure is a result of a normal cycle of resource re-alignment within SCE WWS. Zipper has completed all work associated with its most recent project, Unit 13 for PlayStation Vita. Zipper titles MAG, SOCOM 4 and Unit 13 will continue to be supported, including the new Daily Challenges in Unit 13.

This latest news sees roughly 80 game devs out of work, in a week where THQ also reduced its workforce by more than 100 across two studios.
